Full Size Air Mattress

Queen and twin are the most commonly manufactured and sold sizes for air mattresses. The double size or full size air mattress is an odd size between the twin size and the queen size, making it wide and comfortable for one adult who rolls around or tight but acceptable for two. It’s a good option for small spaces like a motor home or 2-person tent when you go camping.

Here are my recommendations for full size air beds. Do remember that there aren’t many full size air mattress models in the market, so these are based on the best among this particular size only.

Best Full Size Air Mattress

If you don’t need a really high rise air bed, the Intex Comfort Plush Dura-Beam Airbed is the best full size air mattress that gives great value and comfort for a very affordable price. Most Intex air mattresses are cheap, but this is one of the better quality ones with a built in pump.
Intex Comfort Plush Full Size Air bed
This 13-inch tall air mattress is really comfortable and doesn’t move or bounce a lot when fully inflated. You can easily plug in the cord and inflate or deflate it using the dial knob, but on the downside, an external pump cannot be used for this full size air mattress, so if you’re planning to use this for camping at a site without electricity, you may want to check out other good air mattresses for camping.

Inflating and deflating this air mattress take a mere couple of minutes. If you like your mattress soft and plushy, you could release some air with a quick turn to deflate after fully inflating the air mattress. When fully inflated, this air mattress is really firm and hard, but we found that it does lose a bit of air throughout the night.

I recommend getting this full size air mattress for a guest or kids coming over. Check out the price here.

Best Full Size Air Mattress for Camping

For camping you may want to look at the Coleman Quickbed full size air mattress. This is a low profile air mattress that is really portable and light, so with a battery pump you could set up camp anywhere. The pump is not included so you’ll need to buy either a Coleman pump or one that is compatible.
Coleman Quickbed Full size air mattress
The great thing about this air mattress is that it’s very affordable, and the material is good enough to last more than a year. At least, that’s how long we’ve used it for. It’s comfortable enough to camp on for a week or two, before the longing for a taller bed calls.

Remember to inflate and test the Quickbed out of the box as it is always possible with air mattresses that you may receive one with a defect or leak. We had one replaced immediately when we found that it didn’t keep air, and the second one was perfectly fine.

Check out the price here.

Another great full size air mattress for camping is the Mountain Trails Basic air mattress.
Mountain Trails Full size basic camp bed
This is also a great lightweight air mattress that works with an external electric or battery pump. The soft suede top makes it really nice to sleep on but we always use bed sheets and sometimes a mattress topper for extra comfort.

The valve is designed to keep the air in and the air mattress did hold air well for many days. The air coils provide good support and created a flat surface that is good for our back.

This full size air mattress also comes at a very affordable price.

Best Heavy Duty Full Size Air Mattress

SimplySleeper SS-58RF Full Size Air Bed
For a more durable material, the SimplySleeper SS-58RF is the full size air mattress to get. We’ve used air mattresses from SimplySleeper for many years, and they’re known to make really tough and hardy air beds compared to other brands. The only other brand I can think of that uses thick material for their air beds is the Fox Airbeds, but they don’t make full size air beds.

This air bed is taller than those above. At 18 inches, this is easy to get in and out of. If you’re looking for a full size air mattress as an everyday bed, this is probably a better choice than the Intex Comfort Plush recommended above as it’ll last longer. It can hold up to 600 pounds of total weight, and comes with a convenient built in pump.

This full size air mattress is much more expensive though. Here’s the best price.

Serta Air Mattress Reviews

Serta air beds have some really awesome features. This sister brand of Wenzel and Insta-Bed air mattress has become quite well-known and popular with air mattress users.

Serta Air Mattress Reviews

Serta Raised Air Mattress with Never Flat Pump

Serta Raised Air Mattress Queen size

The Serta raised air mattress comes in queen size and twin size which are both excellent guest beds if I may say. This is a really comfortable air mattress. Although it is considered heavy for camping and traveling, it isn’t hard to unpack and repack.

The air bed inflates with a simple turn of the switch after you set your preferred firmness on the dial. The built in pump also deflates the Serta air bed quickly and completely for you to stow away.

The best thing I like about Serta air mattresses is the NeverFlat pump. It is a secondary pump that detects when the air pressure in the mattress has gone down and automatically adds air into it. This works amazingly. I’m assured that I could sleep soundly through the night without having to worry about waking up on the floor.

This feature coupled with the air coils or chambers made the air bed very supportive for a bad back. If you have back pain you may want to consider this Serta air mattress.

It’s also worth mentioning that this Serta air mattress come with firmness settings. I for one do not like to sleep on a bed that is hard as a rock, so the plush setting works fine for me.

Check the price for queen size or twin size here.

Serta EZ Air Mattress with Never Flat Pump

Serta EZ Air Mattress
This Serta air mattress is a really convenient air mattress with frame. I just have to unpack the air mattress, adjust the hardness setting and plug in the cord that was connected to the built in pump.

I turn the dial to inflate and walk out of the room for a glass of water. A few minutes later when I return, the air bed is inflated and ready to use. Hooray for auto shut off! Despite being raised, the air bed does not wobble at all. My regular queen sized sheets fit this air mattress perfectly and the flock top kept the the sheets in place while I was using it.

The 48 air coils in the air mattress provide good support and I also love that we could put stuff away under the air mattress when we’re camping. This model only comes in the queen size. Check out the price here.

Serta Basic Raised Air Mattress

Serta Basic Queen Size Air Mattress

The Serta Basic is a simple air mattress without a built in pump. An external pump is included for inflating the air mattress. I must say that this is one of the better quality air mattress you can buy if you want one without a built in pump. The material is just as good as any other Serta air beds even though this is the cheaper model in their line.

The coils provide enough support and comfort and the height is just right at 18 inches though some people would prefer a higher mattress. Queen size and twin size are available for this Serta air mattress.

Insta-Bed Air Mattress Reviews

Insta-Bed air mattresses are really remarkable. I get a good night’s sleep and not once have I ever woken up and found my bed deflated. If you are looking for an air mattress for everyday use, look no further. The Insta-Bed is one of the most comfortable air beds you can find on the market.

Amazing Firmness Control

Insta-Bed has only air mattresses in the twin size and the queen size. All of Insta-Bed air mattresses come with a built in pump so all you need to do is plug the air bed in and turn on the switch. The air mattress takes less than 5 minutes to inflate completely. This however varies based on your hardness setting. The built in pump honestly takes convenience to a different level.

The feature that really sets Insta-Bed air mattresses apart from the crowd is their NeverFlat pump. We all know when it comes to air mattresses, there’s always a risk that you can wake up on the ground. Insta-Bed has a countermeasure for this plight.

The secondary pump which is more like a sensor ensures that your bed is kept at your preferred firmness setting throughout the night without deflating. This is done by topping up air in the air bed automatically whenever the level of firmness is detected to be low.

Its auto shut off feature also keeps pressure in check so when it reaches your setting, it will shut off and only pump air if there is a shift in air pressure in the air mattress.

Easy Storage

The built in pump also deflates the air bed quickly and completely so it can be folded up and stored away with ease. This did save me a lot of time. With some of the other air mattresses that I’ve tested I had to plug in external pumps and even then they may not deflate completely.

Most Insta-Bed air mattresses come with a carry bag or case that is rugged enough to be used outdoors.

Insta-Bed Air Mattress Reviews

Insta-Bed Raised Air Mattress

insta-bed queen air mattress with built in pump
This is the best air mattress if you have back pain and wants the air bed to stay firm throughout the night. The Insta-Bed signature technology maintains comfort and ensure the air mattress stays full as you sleep.

The queen air mattress with built in pump inflates within 4 minutes which is quite fast. The queen size comes in three models that are the regular queen, the queen with a headboard and the queen with pillow top.

There is also a twin size option available but if an everyday bed replacement is what you’re looking for, head straight for the queen sized air mattress with a headboard because it is the closest it gets to an old fashioned bed.

Insta-Bed Raised Twin Air Mattress

There are three hardness settings that you can choose. I love the plush setting best because it feels like I’m able to sink into my slumber sooner. The queen and twin size air beds have different number of air coils that support me excellently no matter what hardness setting I choose.

Insta-Bed EZ Queen Air Mattress

instabed air mattress with frame
It’s amazing how sometimes big things do come in small packages. I was amazed at how a compact duffel bag on wheels could house a queen sized air mattress. Use it as a guest bed or take it on the road with you.

This air mattress with a frame comes with an AC pump that is built in. There is an auto shut off feature that cuts off the air once your desired firmness setting is reached, so that you don’t have to guess or wait around to test the firmness.

The self deploying frame is a nice touch. It eliminates the risk of punctures while laying the air mattress on the floor and also raises the air mattress higher for easier getting in and out of. It is very easy to open up the frame, plug the cable into the AC outlet and let it fill up on its own.

Check out the price here.

Instabed Stow-n-Go

Instabed Stow n Go
If I were to recommend a good air mattress that could be used on an RV and is super versatile, it would be the Insta-Bed Stow n Go. This twin size Insta-Bed air mattress comes with a built in pump that inflates and deflates fast. The best part is how portable it is. This air mattress weighs very little and fits perfectly in the duffel bag it comes with.

The built in pump runs on 4D batteries that inflates the air mattress in under 2 minutes and deflates it even more quickly. The power of the batteries seemed to be sufficient to get the air mattress firm enough, though you may have to top up some air after the very first inflation as the material stretches a little.

I felt it was a shame that unlike the two models above, this model did not include the NeverFlat pump. On the bright side, it’s really affordable. Check out the price here.

SoundAsleep Air Mattress Reviews

Camping air mattresses may not be comfy enough to be used daily and bulky air beds may not be rugged or travel-friendly enough to be used outdoor, which is why SoundAsleep got it right by producing two series of air mattresses. The SoundAsleep Dream Series are meant for indoor use and the Camping Series are made for the rough outdoors. With a signature blue and white color scheme, this eco-friendly company is taking the air mattress industry by a storm.

I have tried using both the SoundAsleep Dream series and Camping series air mattresses and I was impressed. Their air coils provided me the support needed for a good night’s sleep and yet it was soft enough to be comfortable. Even with the low profile Camping series, I have not once woken up with back pain.

SoundAsleep air mattresses also included a soft top flocking that is not just waterproof but gives a velvety feel to the air mattress that is really nice to sleep on. I like that the material that made their air mattresses is eco-friendly and will not harm the environment when it eventually degrades.

SoundAsleep air mattress has a simple built in pump that helps you easily inflate and deflate it. Just a turn of the dial will start the pump and both inflation and deflation takes less than 3 minutes to complete, which is pretty fast. The carrying case lets you roll up and store the air mattress with ease.

SoundAsleep Air Mattress Reviews

SoundAsleep Dream Series
soundasleep dream series queen air mattress with built in pump
If you’re looking for a guest bed or a temporary replacement for your everyday bed, you should give the Dream series a look. These air beds, whether queen size or twin size, are really comfortable and among the best air mattresses in the market.

This SoundAsleep air bed mattress uses a 15 gauge puncture resistant material that adds to its longevity, is waterproof, and has a built-in-pump. I like that the built in pump has an anti-leakage valve so air that goes in will not escape. The air beds are tall enough for those who have difficulty bending down or those with back pain.

I also like the study construction with the bottom grip so when I’m sleeping on the SoundAsleep air beds, there isn’t a lot of wobbling or moving about. Check out the SoundAsleep Dream Series Queen size and Twin size air mattresses here.

SoundAsleep Camping Series
SoundAsleep Camping Series Air Mattress
Aside from being portable and lightweight, this air mattress has comfort coils that are even more durable compared to SoundAsleep’s regular coils. We have the queen size camping air mattress from SoundAsleep and it’s our favorite camping air mattress. It held air for many days and we never had to top it up with the pump.

The air mattress comes with an external pump that is rechargeable even by car charger, which is great if you forgot to charge it before heading out!

The camping series air mattresses also have the bottom grip which prevents it from moving around once inflated. Together with the carry bag, this air mattress is a perfect companion for a camping trip. Check out the SoundAsleep Camping Series Queen size air mattress here.

Fox Air Beds Reviews

Fox Air Beds makes some tough and yet comfortable air mattresses. If you’re looking for guest bed for elderly people or an affordable air mattress to reduce back pain, the Fox Air Beds does the job and so much more.

There is only one model of air mattress by Fox Air Beds, the Plush High Rise Air Mattress, and it comes in king, queen, twin XL and full (double) size. I noticed that the Fox Air Beds made their air beds true to size. Tall people will really appreciate the exact 80-inch length that is so rare in air beds nowadays.

Fox Airbeds Plush High Rise Twin Air Mattress

The Fox AirBeds use an air flow design to create a flat and supportive surface for the sleeper. Paired with the chambers, this allows the air mattress to handle more weight and prevent any sagging. I tested the king sized air mattress with Joe and when one of us tossed and turned, the bed stays firm and stable. No bouncing around!

Durable and Strong

Fox Air Beds use a vinyl that the company claims to be thicker than competition. Their thick vinyl undoubtedly helps avoid punctures and keep the air in. This also means that the seams and the inner chambers are stronger and will last longer. On the downside, the thick material overall contributes to the weight so these air beds are not really suitable for backpackers or campers.

You could still use this air mattress for camping if you camp nearby your house or drive right up to your campsite. The two pump valves allow you to choose from using the built-in electric pump that requires plugging into an outlet or using an external, handheld or electric pump.

The built in pump also deflates the air bed down to zero air, so we found it was really easy folding up the air mattress after use. Similarly, you could deflate it using a hand pump as well. The duffel bag that is included is of rather cheap quality though, I suggest getting a better duffel bag if you need to use it often.

Hands-On Experience Using a Fox Air Bed

We inflated our king size Fox Air Bed and tested it for a week. After inflating it, we rolled on it, slept on it, and even tried bouncing up and down lightly. Surprisingly, the air bed held the air for the week and at the end of it, it was just as firm as we first pumped it up.

best king size air mattress

I love how the air bed is so big and comfortable, and my deep bed sheets fitted it just right! We bought this air mattress with the gel foam mattress topper which came in a set, and it was a good deal. The mattress topper is a comfortable 2-inch thick, which made us feel as if we were sleeping on our normal bed.

Here’s where you can look at the different sizes of Fox Air Beds and their best prices. The Fox Air Beds are not among the cheapest air beds you can get, but you do get value for money with their quality. In any case there is a 90 day warranty which is a safeguard against getting a dud.

Best Mattress for Back Pain

Have you ever woken up in the morning feeling as if your back and hip has already form an alliance with the bed? Do you get up with back pain, hip pain or shoulder pain? If this occurs frequently, it could well mean that your mattress is not suitable for you.
back pain
There are many types of mattresses, the most common ones including innerspring, latex, memory foam, futon and air mattress. To understand which type of mattress suits you best to prevent pain, you must first know why your mattress is causing you back pain.

The main reasons for waking up with pain is the lack of conformability and support in your mattress. Let’s go into some details.

When we sleep, some parts of our body come into contact with the bed with more pressure than other parts, and these are called pressure points.

If you are a back sleeper, your pressure points are likely to be the back and the buttocks. For a side sleeper, the shoulder and the hip is where your weight is based. If you sleep on your tummy, the front of the shoulders, hip and knees are your pressure points.

Conforms to Your Body

A good mattress must conform to your body shape well enough to relieve the pressure for these points and provide support for the parts that are non-pressure points. Lie down on your mattress and if your pressure points sink lower into the mattress enough for the non-pressure points to come into contact with the bed naturally, the mattress has good conformability.
A mattress with poor conformability will not allow your pressure points to sink lower, causing the other parts of your body (especially the lower back) to unnaturally sag towards gravity without support.

The type of mattress with the best conformability is the memory foam mattress. The mattress follows the contour of your body completely as you lie on it, providing support for all parts of your body. The mattress with poorest conformability is latex.

Supports Your Body

Support is not the same as conformability although conformability helps provide more support. A good mattress must support your entire body by keeping it on a level surface, If your mattress is wobbly or sags to one side or towards the middle, it will not provide enough support for you.

If your body feels as if it’s falling off of the bed (even so slightly that you didn’t consciously notice it), the muscles are bound to fight the gravity all night.

Mattresses with the best support is the air bed. Air mattresses support the sleeper well and they are known to be a great option as an everyday bed if you have back pain or discomfort from sleeping. Innerspring mattresses provide initial support but tend to sag over a few years.

Soft vs Firm

The right firmness of a mattress varies for different sleeping positions, but the main idea is to get a balance between a soft mattress and a firm mattress. Softness contributes to conformability, while firmness contributes to support. Too much of either is not good.

For back sleepers, the body lies on its wider side so a firm mattress will be more comfortable. Side sleepers will find a soft mattress more conformable to their pressure points. On the other hand, a soft mattress will probably suffocate a front sleeper or cause neck and shoulder pain.

Best Mattress for Back Pain

So what is the best mattress for back pain? We find that the air mattress is the best choice as an everyday bed if you suffer from back pain.

However, make sure that you choose a good air bed, preferably one with multiple air coils or chambers for extra support, one that does not lose air quickly so that no sagging occurs in the night, and a raised height for easy getting in and out of the bed.

For extra conformability you can top the air bed with a memory foam or gel foam mattress topper at about 1 to 2-inch thick. If you are a side sleeper get a thicker topper for a softer feel.

Queen Air Mattress With Built In Pump

Convenience won over budget cutting when I tried to decide whether to get a queen air mattress with built in pump or without one. A battery pump may work just as well but there’s nothing like inflating an air bed quickly with a built in, electric pump. When guests come over to my house, I only have to plug in the cable and turn a switch to get the air bed ready.

As it has become popular to buy an air bed to save space or for relieving back pain, there are quite a number of queen size air mattresses in the market. I’ve listed out the top queen air mattresses with built in pump here.

Best Queen Air Mattress With Built In Pump

The Insta-Bed is the best queen air bed for its overall great features, reasonable price and durability. I love how stable the air bed is, thanks to the support of 35 air coils inside the air mattress. Absolutely no wobbling about in your dreams!
insta-bed queen air mattress with built in pump
But the best feature that we love about the Insta-Bed is its secondary pump, which keeps the the air mattress fully inflated to our preset firmness AT ALL TIMES, without our interference! This pump is more like a sensor which picks up when the air bed has lost air due to temperature difference or material stretch or any reason at all, and tops up air on its own.

The 18-inch height is just nice for getting into bed easily and we bought it for our visiting parents who are elderly enough to be exempted from camping.

In terms of convenience and price, this queen size air mattress wins hands down over others in the same price range (see the price for the Insta-Bed here), though I would prefer the SoundAsleep queen air mattress for even better support and comfort.
soundasleep dream series queen air mattress with built in pump
The SoundAsleep Dream Series queen size air mattress with built in pump has five more air coils than the Insta-Bed, and I love that the ridge around the edges of the air mattress helps steady it and keep our pillows on the bed. I think this is the best mattress for back pain!

This 19-inch high queen air mattress comes with a built in pump that inflates it in 4 minutes. The first time I inflated the air bed the material stretched and lost air over the first night, but after I topped it up for the second night it didn’t lose any more air for days after that.

The SoundAsleep Dream Series comes slightly more expensive than the Insta-Bed, though it’s still a good value for money because ours has lasted for over two years and still going strong. Check the price here.

Another highly recommended queen size air mattress with pump is the SimplySleeper SS-89Q. I have owned several SimplySleeper air mattresses, and I must say they make really durable ones.

SimplySleeper SS-89Q queen air bed with pump

This queen air bed makes a difference if you have pet cats or dogs who sleep with you. You do have to cover the air mattress with a protector and bed sheets, but the tough material that makes this air bed is good enough not to pop at the slightest hint of paw action.

This air bed is not as comfortable as the two above, nor is it more comfortable than the cheaper Intex model that I will include below, but for leak-proof and burst-proof durability, nothing beats the SimplySleeper. The pump works quickly and not too loudly to inflate it, and deflates it nicely for the storage bag too. See the price of this queen air bed here.

A cheaper option is to get the Intex Comfort Plush 22-inch high queen air mattress. This queen air bed with pump comes at about half the price of all those above, a real steal if you don’t care much about durability or ability to hold air.

Intex Comfort Plush Queen Air Bed

This is a great buy for those who are looking for a raised queen size air mattress to sleep on for a few days instead of long term, and not wanting to spend too much. It can be a spare bed for the occasional camp trip too.

The air bed will stretch and lose air over time but it’s not difficult to top up air with the built in pump. The 22-inch height is a really good height for those who have less flexibility in the back. Although it does not have great support coils, this Intex air bed is comfortable enough to sleep on. Get this air mattress with free shipping over here.

On the other hand, if you need an air mattress for camping, none of the above are great choices especially if you will be sleeping in a small tent, because all are high rise air beds that will take up a lot of space in your tent, and they do not weigh lightly for your backpack either.

Most camping air mattresses, even the best air mattresses for camping, require an external pump. If you want a built in pump, the Coleman Quickbed Elite is a rare camping air mattress that comes with one, powered by 4 D cell batteries.

camping air mattress with built in pump

It takes about five minutes to set up this air mattress in the tent, including the time to inflate it fully, and it fits well in a 3 to 4-person tent with ample space left for storing other gear. I like that the air mattress is a bit thicker than most low air mattresses, so it’s really comfortable.

The common complaint for the Quickbed Elite is a popped seam after a certain amount of use. As it is difficult to repair that, I would consider myself lucky if it doesn’t happen in a year. The air mattress is rather affordable though, and the value for money is good enough for some to buy this over and over again. Check out the price here.

Twin Air Mattress With Built In Pump

Whether you need an air mattress for overnight guests or for your own daily use, it’s good to have one with a built-in pump as it’ll save a lot of hassle for you. One turn of the dial or switch in the air bed and it will automatically inflate or deflate itself in a few minutes.

Here I’ve listed out the best twin air mattresses with built in pump that you can consider.

Best Twin Air Mattress With Built In Pump

Insta-Bed Raised Twin Air Mattress
The Insta-Bed is one of my favorite air mattresses with its patented Never Flat pump. This high rise, twin air bed has not one but two pumps to keep your air bed inflated at your preferred firmness at all times.

One of the pumps is a normal one that you can turn and inflate or deflate the air mattress, while the other one is more of a sensor, which detects any loss of air during the night and adds air automatically when the air bed has soften.

This is the best twin air mattress with built in pump to consider if you are getting one for everyday use. It has support coils which make it really comfortable and sturdy to sleep on.

Here’s where you can get it for a good price.

Best Twin Air Mattress With Built In Pump Under $100

SoundAsleep Dream Series Twin Air Bed
For less than $100 you could get the SoundAsleep Dream Series Twin Air Mattress with built in pump, which is a tight competition for the Insta-Bed. In fact, my wife feels that this is the better twin air bed because it’s softer and it takes very little time to pump up.

The air coils help keep the air mattress flat and sturdy at its 18-inch height. We found that this twin air mattress doesn’t lose air over a few days after the initial stretch of the material, which was very little.

If you want a twin air mattress with built in pump to accommodate guests and don’t want to pay over $100, the SoundAsleep Dream Series is the one to get.

Here’s where you can get it for a good price.

Most Durable Twin Air Mattress With Built In Pump

SimplySleeper SS-47T
Camp goers or whoever wants to find a single high twin air mattress that is made of scratch-proof and durable material, the SimplySleeper SS-47T is your thing. This twin air mattress comes with a built-in pump, which is rare in single high twin air mattresses.

Our family friend who is a cat owner testifies that this air mattress survived his cat’s advances, though he did put bed sheets over it. A couple of reviewers who bought this actually used it when they served in the war a few years ago, hats off to them.

For normal people like us, this twin air mattress blows up easily and quickly, and is really comfortable to sleep on, though you’ll definitely want some bedding on it to prevent the material from making squeaky sounds when you turn in your sleep.

Here’s where you can get this twin air mattress with built in pump.

Most True to Size Twin Air Mattress With Built In Pump

Fox Airbeds Plush High Rise Twin Air Mattress
What tall people hate most about air mattresses is that they don’t come true to their size. The Fox Airbeds Plush High Rise Twin Air Mattress boasts an exact 80-inch length and this means you won’t have to feel uncomfortable with your feet too close to the end of the bed.

The Fox Airbeds Plush air mattress is made of a thick vinyl that lasts. This helps keep the air in so there isn’t a need to top up the air often. I love how the pump quickly inflates the air mattress to its full size, and it also deflates the air mattress completely so you can roll it away.

The downside is that this twin air bed is heavy, so you might not want to buy it for camping, and the storage bag included is not sturdy enough for this entire piece of vinyl. For use as a guest bed or everyday bed? Highly recommended.

Click here to get it at a bargain price.

Cheap Twin Air Mattress With Built In Pump

Intex Deluxe Pillow Rest Raised Airbed
If you want to spend less than $50 for a temporary twin air bed that has the convenience of a built in pump, the Intex Deluxe Pillow Rest is the best you can get.

The raised edges are a good feature to keep you comfortably tucked in the middle of the air mattress. The built in pillow rest is all right if you don’t have pillows, and keeps your pillow in place if you have one.

It’s comfortable enough for a few nights sleep though I wouldn’t use this over a long period myself, as I felt that it didn’t offer enough support.

Click here to get this twin air bed with built-in pump.

If you have space you may want to consider a queen air mattress with built in pump instead of a twin. Queen air mattresses are not much more expensive than twin size air mattresses. You can find more recommendations in my best air mattress reviews page.

King Size Air Mattress

There aren’t many choices in the market for king size air mattresses, and you’d thought it’d be easier to make a decision on which king size air mattress to buy, however that is not the case, as you’ll start wondering if it’s worth putting your money in an expensive king air bed that gets few reviews over a queen size air bed that people are raving about.

If you are looking for the best king size air mattress for everyday use or for camping, I’ve picked the top 3 most highly rated and popular king size air mattress to review here.

Best High Rise King Size Air Bed

A high rise or raised king size air mattress that is good value for money is the Plush High Rise Inflatable Bed by Fox Airbeds. This king size air mattress inflates true to its size so you’ll be pleased to find that it’s huge enough for two adults to sleep comfortably.
best king size air mattress

The material that makes this king size air bed is thick nylon so it can be heavier than most air mattresses, but that contributes to its longevity. I like how it stays firm for many days without having to top up any air. In fact, I’ve had it inflated for 15 days and at the end it didn’t feel any different from the very first day it was pumped up.

This king size air mattress is very easy to inflate with its built in pump, but you could also use an external pump of your own if you don’t happen to have an outlet nearby. You can buy this air bed for the best price here.

To take the comfort an extra step further, this air bed is available in a set with a 2-inch thick gel memory foam mattress topper and two small pillows at just an extra $70. That’s a real bargain even for the memory foam topper alone, as this is a king size air mattress. I’d say go for the whole set even though the pillows are really rather small, because with the mattress topper you’ll feel as if you’re sleeping on a real bed.

Fox Airbeds Plush High Rise with mattress topper

I wouldn’t bring this king size air mattress to camping though, since it’s heavy to lug around. If you need a king size air mattress for camping, look at the Coleman models below.

Best Cheap King Size Air Mattress

coleman quickbed king size air mattress
A very affordable king size air mattress that you can easily bring everywhere with you is the Coleman Quickbed. Although not a high end or luxurious air bed, this air mattress is really comfortable. For the cheap price, we wouldn’t complain about the lack of durability either.

You should take care not to overfill the air mattress, or you’ll risk having the dents on top pop out. The proper way of inflating this air mattress for the first time is to pump it up until almost firm, and then roll on it to move the air into the pockets or crannies before filling it up all the way. We really don’t like sleeping on those dents, so a mattress topper is a must.

This king size air mattress does not come with a pump, but you can buy a Coleman pump separately if you don’t already own an electric pump. The cheapest electric pumps cost anything from $12 to $15. See the best price for this air mattress.

King Size Air Mattress for Camping

The Coleman 4-in-1 Quickbed wins when it comes to versatility and value for price. This convertible 2-piece air mattress can be used as a king size air mattress when clipped together, or as two twin size air mattresses separately, or you could stack them up to become a high twin.

This works great if you need to use a king size for camping and twin beds for guests at home, or the other way round. I like that the beds don’t move around when they are connected, whether in the king size style or in the stacked twin style.

Bear in mind though, that since the king size is made up of connecting two twin beds, there is a gap in the middle of the king air mattress. The only way I could think of to get around this is to use a king size mattress topper and fitted sheets on it.

If you are buying this from Amazon, make sure to test both of the air mattresses for leaks or defects within the 30 days frame for return, as I’ve noticed that a few people complained about getting a leak in one of the mattresses.

Well, I hope these recommendations will help you find the king size air mattress that is comfortable and yet won’t break the bank. Air Mattress With Frame

If you like standard air mattresses for less bounciness in the night and raised air beds for easy getting into, an air mattress with frame gives you the best of both worlds.

The frame elevates the air mattress to the height of a real bed, so if you have back pain or difficulty bending down you’ll find the height just right for you to swing your legs to the floor and sit up just like in a regular bed.

For our parents sleeping over our place occasionally, we wanted them to sleep comfortably but a regular queen size bed is too much space for us to give up for good. We rolled out our Coleman camping cot for them once and they seemed to like it, so in the end we upgraded to the Insta-Bed air mattress with frame.

Insta-Bed EZ Bed is similar to the Serta EZ Air Mattress but the latter comes at a slightly higher price. We saw both the air mattresses with their frames, and there was no substantial difference between the two. Both are great air mattresses that come in one piece with the frame and included a built in pump.

The EZ Bed is easy to roll out in its bag with wheels, unzipped and then unfolded together with the frame. Just plug it into the wall and turn the dial to inflate the air mattress. What I like is the second pump just like the Insta-Bed raised air bed; it has sensors to maintain the firmness of the air mattress automatically, so you don’t have to manually add air to the mattress when its firmness has decreased.

This air mattress is really firm and we could tell immediately that it is comfortable, however, I didn’t like sleeping on the little dents around the support air coils, so we put a thin mattress pad on top and that made it even more comfortable.

Although there’s no sagging and the air bed remains firm throughout several nights, it does move when one sleeper turns in sleep or gets up. This is perfectly normal as we haven’t found any air mattress that is capable of not doing that yet.

The only downside of this air bed with frame is the price. This is a rather expensive air mattress to buy but for our parents’ regular visits we felt it was worth it.

For camping you may want to consider the Coleman Airbed Cot instead, because this air mattress with frame weighs lighter than the EZ Bed, and weighing at about 20 lbs, it’s not as light as other air mattresses without frame either.

We love using the Coleman air mattress with frame when we know the ground would be cold. The frame keeps us away from the cold ground and we managed to use the space beneath for storage, so we did not waste any space in the tent for the air bed.

We also came to love the side tables that we scorned at initially, but which proved to be useful for us to place our phones and small items.

The Coleman Cot comes in both queen size and twin size cots. Both take regular bed sheets nicely, and we always use bed linen because: 1) it’s more comfortable and feels like home; 2) it keeps us warmer; and 3) it helps mask any squeaky sounds the air mattress may make.

For the Coleman air mattress you’ll need to use the included pump that is powered by 4D batteries, so make sure you pack the batteries before you head out.

The queen size Coleman air mattress with frame is cheaper than the EZ bed for the less luxurious features, but it’s certainly more suited for camping needs.
